Dramatherapy is a creative arts therapy which encourges and supports clients to achieve self-awareness through the exploration of feelings and personal issues. The emphasis is on growth, learing and change - socially, physically and emotionally - through the medium of work and play.  It uses the healing aspects and therapeutic process of drama and theatre to facilitate creativity, imagination,learning and insight.  Dramatherapy is an active approach which aims to help the individual tell their story to solve a problem; it empowers the individual to access their own latent creative potential, and to re-emerge stronger and heathier.

The theoretical foundation of Dramatherapy lies in drama,theatre,psychology,psychotherapy,anthropology and play.  Dramatherpists are both artists and clinicians.

Typical activities include the use of objects, movement,improvision,storytelling,play, role-play, myth, script work and performance.

Dramatherapy is used in a wide variety of settings: psychiatric hospitals, mental health facilities,nursing homes,
substance abuse centers,prisons and schools to assist people recover from dysfunctional families, abuse, addiction, age related illnesses and developmental delay.
